Breaking News: Three Emerging Wolverines Enter Transfer Portal, Seeking New Opportunities and Challenges

When it came to players using the transfer portal, Michigan’s roster had been mostly intact up until this point. The only big loss worth mentioning was safety Keon Sabb, and that was well in advance of the spring game. Three young Wolverines have now chosen to explore their surroundings after maybe spotting some kind of writing on the wall during Saturday’s last session.
Beasley is a true freshman who enrolled early and has only been on college for less than four months, so this one is a little unusual.

The Belleville product appeared to have some potential as an athletic backer who played running back in high school, and he looked like a Mike Barrett clone in his No. 23 jersey during Saturday’s spring game. Since his career never really got going, it’s difficult to guess why he’s already looking about.

Again, this one seems a little confusing considering that Herring is only a second-year player. It’s possible that he wasn’t considered for the two deep this season, but offensive linemen often don’t do it. Look no further than players like Greg Crippen, Gio El-Hadi, and Jeff Persi. Despite playing relatively little over the course of three or four years, these players are now in position to start for the Wolverines after gaining experience, making their due, and picking up knowledge from more experienced players. Perhaps Herring simply didn’t want to wait given he only played in one game as a true freshman last season. It will be fascinating to observe the final destination of the West Bloomfield product.

And lastly, the most perplexing thing. Waller, who is currently in his second year, participated in 11 games as a true freshman last season, including crucial plays in crucial contests like the Big Ten championship game. He then performed admirably on Saturday, collecting the lone interception in the spring game, and he appeared to be the type of guy who may start opposite Will Johnson. Even though he was probably friendly with previous defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale, this move is still unclear.
