The defender, who has a plethora of EFL experience, is reportedly of interest to Sheffield United. They are not, however, the only team said to be interested in the Arsenal academy graduate.

The Sun claims that Birmingham is ready to compete with the Blades in the summer for Ayling’s signing. According to the article, Ayling, who was promoted from the Championship with Leeds in 2020, has Birmingham as a serious alternative.

During his 18 games for Middlesbrough, he has amassed six assists, demonstrating his impressive play under Michael Carrick. Earlier this month, Carrick hinted at Ayling’s future, saying the defender is not “up on stage.”

“I don’t think he’s up on stage or the shop window to be judged like that [with a future contract in mind],” he stated. Regardless of whether they are currently on loan, how long they have left on their contract, or anything else, every player in that group is a member of our team. He is our player right now, and we will try to take full advantage of that.”
