Former NBA player Charles Barkley isn’t holding back when it comes to his thoughts on the Boston Celtics’ performance, speculating that their current offensive approach may put their hopes of winning a title in jeopardy.
Before the Celtics’ Game 5 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Barkley expressed his worries about Boston’s offensive strategy during an Inside the NBA segment. Pointing out an excessive emphasis on one-on-one play, he called it the “worst offense” he had ever seen.
“They’re the worst offense against adults that I’ve seen.” Barkley said, “The way they play offense right now, they can’t win a championship like that. It’s like they just give the ball to one guy and go 1-on-1.”
Basketball fans have been divided over Barkley’s remarks. Some wonder if Barkley’s criticism of the Celtics’ offense is valid, even though the team has won despite its criticism.
For the Celtics, there could be hope soon, though. Kristaps Porzingis is expected to return for the Eastern Conference Finals, which might improve their offensive prowess and get them back to their typical self.
All eyes will be on the Celtics as they continue their playoff run to see whether they can allay Barkley’s worries and keep going for championship glory.
