With s recent trade to the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs have seen a familiar face align with one of their fiercest rivals.
In the offseason, Brett Veach has been buMarquez Valdez-Scantling’sy and decided to cut the two-time Super Bowl winner.
The Kansas City Chiefs made the financial decision to dismiss the wide receiver just 16 days after he was awarded the Vince Lombardi Trophy once more.
The team was able to save $12 million on the cap thanks to the move, freeing up valuable funds for additional investments.
Furthermore, the choice proved to be significant since the Chiefs used that cash to sign Chris Jones, the highest-paid defensive lineman, to a five-year contract extension.
After more than two months of waiting patiently on the open market, Valdes-Scantling has finally reached an agreement with the Buffalo Bills.
The quick wide receiver has signed a $4.5 million one-year contract, according to Dianna Russini.
The 29-year-old found it difficult to improve on his 687 receiving yard season from his rookie campaign during his time in Missouri.
But in the playoffs, where it was either win or lose, the former Chief shined.
During the Cincinnati Bengals’ 2022 AFC Championship game, MVS grabbed a key touchdown and amassed 116 yards off six receptions.
After posting a career-low 315 receiving yards during the regular season the year after, he was able to establish himself in the postseason.
Just before the two-minute warning, he grabbed a crucial 32-yard third-down convert that allowed the Chiefs to extend the game and win the AFC Championship.
MVS scored a crucial touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII to set up the Chiefs for victory once again.
Reactions from fans to the revelation of their former player’s free agency connection to an AFC rival have been divided on X.
“I’m a Chiefs fan and this guy is very inconsistent with catching the ball and you will never know when he will catch or not,” was the reasonable response from @Papa03357239. However, in terms of speed, he is an effective field stretcher. Just hope Allen catches it because of how strongly he throws the ball.
Taking a jab at the signing, @RowdySal said that “this was an inside job by the Chiefs.”
And @LukasHubbard concurred, saying, “As a Chiefs fan, this is great news.”
@JesusPatMahomes had a cheerful attitude: “MVS faced difficulties occasionally, but he came through for us when we truly needed him.”
“People will laugh at this, but I feel like there’s a non-zero chance playoff Marquez is gonna end up knocking the Chiefs out of the divisional round or something,” expresses @SnapDragon432’s worry that MVS may return to haunt them.
