IOWA CITY, Iowa: Head coach Sasha Schmid revealed on Monday that Tereza Dejnozkova, a transfer from South Alabama, has signed a scholarship tender with the University of Iowa women’s tennis team. Dejnozkova will be eligible to play for the Hawkeyes for two years.
The native of Prague, Czech Republic, won 32 singles wins and 23 doubles matches in her two seasons in Mobile. She was named to the Sun Belt’s second team in the 2023–2024 season.
Tereza is a welcome addition to the University of Iowa, according to Schmid. “During the recruiting process, I clicked with her right away, and I’m excited to mentor her and see her compete for our program.
“Tereza is a gifted athlete who played for a top-tier South Alabama team and earned invaluable experience at the collegiate level in tennis. Her spring 2024 competition at No. 1 singles afforded her access to elite matches every weekend. She will immediately improve our singles and doubles lines by bringing all of her competitive expertise to our program.
As a sophomore, Dejnozkova finished 13-5 in singles, including a 12-4 record at No. 1 position. Going 14-6 overall, she was a member of the top doubles team as well.
Dejnozkova had a 19-12 overall singles record as a rookie, with a 14-5 dual play record and a 5-7 tournament record. 9-3 at No. 4, 2-1 at No. 3, and 3-1 at No. 5 was her record. At the top line in pairs play, Dejnozkova also finished 9–8.
Dejnozkova stated, “I felt an instant connection with Sasha, which is why I chose the University of Iowa.” She was really gregarious and animated. I was excited when I learned about Iowa’s excellent tennis program and the chances the school provides since I think this is a fantastic fit for both my academic career and my tennis career. I am eager to get going.
Dejnozkova has graduated from OA Satalice in Prague as a prep.
In 2024, the Hawkeyes finished with an overall record of 11-12 and a Big Ten record of 6-5, sharing sixth place in the conference standings.
