According to a well-known MLB insider, the Houston Astros and Cleveland Guardians are both strong candidates to win the best power hitter available in the July MLB trade market.
The Astros and Guardians are in quite different positions going into today’s MLB games. Despite having won another World Series championship two seasons ago and being a baseball powerhouse for the majority of the previous ten years, Houston is off to an unexpectedly slow start to the 2024 season, and many across the league view them as possible sellers before the trade deadline.
Conversely, the Guardians are now experiencing a positive trend following their 2023 postseason exclusion. They have the second-best record in the league going into their game against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, and they are off to one of their greatest starts to a season in years.
Even yet, ESPN MLB expert Buster Olney thinks they might be two of the likely teams vying for the same All-Star player who might be put up for trade in a few weeks, despite their divergent opinions on the current American League rankings.
Olney asserted on Tuesday that Pete Alonso of the New York Mets may find a “possible fit” with the Houston Astros and Cleveland Guardians. The three-time All-Star is considered one of the game’s best sluggers after hitting 86 home runs in the previous two seasons.
Alonso would be a significant improvement for Houston at first base and could play DH for either team.
