The battle to hire during the off-season is underway. Nowadays, a sizable portion of the Power Five universities are giving scholarships to young, bright high school athletes left and right. The defensive threats are also receiving attention, even if many of them are offensive weapons. Being regarded as one of the best cornerbacks for 2025, Chuck McDonald has been in the news for a while. Football teams from USC, Georgia, and Alabama have all expressed interest in acquiring him. Still, it came down to Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs and Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide.
Chuck McDonald has decided to dedicate himself to the Alabama football program, according to On 3 Sports’ Andrew Bone. Most colleges searching for a defensive boost haven’t paid much attention to the six-foot-one cornerback who can jump as high as most wide receivers and chase route runners.
When Chuck McDonald came to Tuscaloosa, he was enthralled. However, Kalen DeBoer’s team was the one that guided him toward a wise choice. They, along with his previous colleagues Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown, seemed to have a significant influence on his decision-making.
Simply everything. The guidance. Everyone up there seemed to be in good shape. Everyone seemed to be authentic. I adore their coaching background. Coach Mo was the head coach before. I spoke with a few of my former teammates as well. They gave me the straight scoop on how everything works there. It felt natural. You attend ‘Bama if you want to be the best. The new Alabama football recruit declared, “There’s nowhere else to be.”
McDonald is a product of the same school that produced excellent cornerbacks for Alabama football. Thus far, Brown and Jackson have shown to be valuable members of the Crimson Tide. Not to add, McDonald’s former school produced Bryce Young, the first overall choice in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Alabama takes him right out from under Georgia’s nose.
On April 9, 2024, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA, head coach Kalen DeBoer of the University of Alabama reviews his play sheet during practice at the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility.
It seemed like McDonald still had a lot of visits to do. However, Kirby Smart’s Georgia football team was unable to match the attraction of the Alabama football program. In addition to the Bulldogs, he was scheduled to visit Oregon and USC. Nevertheless, because he expressed his intention to play for the Crimson Tide, none of those events may occur going forward.
Right now, he’s just relieved that the opportunity to pursue his aspirations has now presented itself.
“It feels wonderful to be devoted. This place is just different. To be in this role is a blessing. I informed Coach Mo of my commitment. He was giddy. He was prepared for me to begin. Everything about Alabama is perfect. Although some claim that the new employees won’t be the same, they will maintain that level of quality. I’m certain of that,” he said.
