Miami has secured its inaugural summer commitment.
Following an official visit to Miami on Sunday night, cornerback Timothy Merritt of Birmingham, Alabama, Parker declared his commitment to the Hurricanes. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound player chose the Hurricanes over offers from a number of schools, including Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama.
During his departure interviews this morning, he informed Mario Cristobal that Coral Gables was where he intended to play college football.
“There are unique individuals there. Before making his decision, Merritt told InsideTheU, “Miami speaks for itself, but the people there and the facility is great and when you know something, you just know.”
Chevis Jackson’s first high school commitment since coming to Miami from Marshall is to Merritt. Jackson shares a same relationship with Merritt in that they are both native of Alabama, and this helped Merritt decide on Miami.
One of the main factors in my dedication was Coach Jackson. I believe that connections are important, and that too many young people base their decisions not on relationships but rather on money. Everything else will sort itself out. The bond we began establishing two years ago is crucial,” Merritt remarked.
Though Merritt thought Miami would be the right place for him going into the weekend, after spending time in South Florida and with the staff, the choice became clear.
I kind of thought going into the weekend that, if it seemed right, I may wind up doing it, but it felt far more right than right. My family and I believed that it was ideal. Merritt remarked, “My mom was thrilled and thought it was the correct decision as well.
Merritt, a highly anticipated three-star prospect, will start his career at cornerback but can also play safety or nickel in collegiate football.
“They witness me exerting every effort in my defense. They say I can play nickel, safety, and corner. I’m going to begin at the corner and progress to other roles.”
Miami now has seven pledges in the Class of 2025, including Merritt. Miami now stands at No. 37 in the Team Rankings as a result.
