The New York Yankees recently played the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series to see what life would be like without their best player, Juan Soto. Thankfully, Soto will make a comeback in the next series against the Kansas City Royals, which will excite both the club and the fans.
Grisham’s Unexpected Yankees Heroics
Grisham, who had a batting average of just.083 going into Sunday’s game, was heavily criticized, but he still found himself in a crucial position by starting fifth in the order.
The Yankees’ calculated move paid off in the sixth inning when Grisham launched a game-winning three-run home bomb that gave the team a 5-3 advantage that they would hold for the remainder of the contest. With a 434-foot home run in the eighth inning, Aaron Judge gave even more insurance to the Yankees’ 6–4 victory, saving them from a series sweep.
Grisham’s.100/.258/.280 average is still low overall, but his game-winning home run against the Dodgers showed that he can be a major player when called upon. This outing highlighted the value of having Grisham, a depth player who now plays a different function with the Yankees despite having previously been a main starter with the San Diego Padres.
Grisham, who was the starting centerfielder in past seasons, will return to his job as a depth outfielder as Soto gets ready to return to the starting order. Grisham is still an above-average fielder even though his hitting statistics have dropped. Though his offensive production has fallen short of expectations, the Yankees nevertheless acknowledge his defensive skills.
