According to Jocelyn Pierce’s most recent bankruptcy filing, her husband, Raiders coach Antonio Pierce, is financially liable for $28 million in legal judgments, as reported by Tashan Reed of TheAthletic.com.
According to Reed, who cites documents obtained by TheAthletic.com, Jocelyn Pierce’s declaration that creditors have tried to seize the couple’s assets is included in the bankruptcy case. There is a $23 million judgment against Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation and a $4.5 million judgment against Hyundai Capital America. Both have reportedly tried to deduct Antonio Pierce’s Raiders salary, according the document.
That led to the declaration of bankruptcy. In order to “accurately gather all information concerning the community property while attending to her home and children,” Jocelyn Pierce has until July 12 to do so.
If Antonio Pierce looks to be in debt, as reported by Reed, then it’s unclear why Jocelyn Pierce filed for bankruptcy.
It is uncommon, if not unheard of, for an NFL head coach to be mired in legal problems with such large purported obligations. While some protection may be provided by the bankruptcy regulations, the scenario may easily spiral out of control and complicate his first full season as an NFL head coach.
