John Ruddy, who left Birmingham City, has been given the opportunity to join the Premier League.
After two years with St Andrew’s, the 37-year-old announced on social media on Thursday, June 27 that he would be quitting the club. Even before Chris Davies was appointed, in May, he was given a new contract; nevertheless, he chose to go in search of a different playing chance.
The Mirror claims that Newcastle United has extended a signing offer to him. Although Ruddy was scheduled to speak with Charlton Athletic, the Magpies are reportedly interested in him due to his availability.
Eddie Howe may need a third-choice goalie, but he has two solid choices in Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka. Ruddy might take over for Lorus Karius, a former Liverpool player, whose contract is up, while also assisting Newcastle with their domestic goal tally.
He has played for three different Premier League clubs, giving him a respectable amount of experience in the highest level of sport. In February 2006, Ruddy made his debut for Everton. Five years later, he joined Norwich City and spent three years playing in the top league in Europe.
He’d been in a constant struggle for the top slot with Neil Etheridge since leaving Wolves, and he usually prevailed. Under John Eustace and several other managers, he made 89 appearances for Birmingham and kept 25 clean sheets. Who Scored ranked Ruddy as the sixth best goalkeeper in the division, despite the club’s relegation from the Championship.
