Just In: FC Cincinnati Key Player Will Miss The Remaining 2024 Major League Soccer Season Following Knee Surgery

After Miazga’s procedure, the meniscus and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) were successfully repaired. In addition, Miazga has been added to the Season-Ending Injury List and is anticipated to return to Cincinnati in 2025 for preseason games.

The US international, 28, was hurt during Cincinnati’s game against the San Jose Earthquakes on June 15. He blocked a shot and slid into the post on a goal-saving challenge.

Since joining FC Cincinnati in August 2022, Miazga, 28, has made 68 appearances across all competitions after being purchased from Chelsea of the English Premier League.

The native product of the New York Red Bulls won MLS Defender of the Year, Best XI presented by Continental Tire, and MLS All-Star titles in 2023. Cincy’s first-ever Supporters’ Shield and trip to the Eastern Conference Final were made possible by such efforts.

Miazga’s placement on the Season-Ending Injury List has given Cincinnati more room on the roster for prospective acquisitions during the Secondary Transfer Window, which runs from July 18 to August 14.

FC Cincinnati's Matt Miazga out for the season after undergoing surgery
Considering that Nick Hagglund has suffered a fractured fibula, Cincy’s backline is suddenly weak. Miles Robinson, a US international, serves as their main center defender, with Ian Murphy and Kipp Keller providing backup.

With 39 points (12W-4L-3D), Cincinnati is second in the Supporters’ Shield in Eastern Conference standings, only behind Inter Miami CF.
