The New England Patriots, who have been led by legendary player and head coach Bill Belichick for 24 years, are embarking on a new chapter in their history and an unknown future under the direction of former player and head coach Jerod Mayo.
In addition to hiring a new head coach, the Patriots benched starting quarterback Mac Jones, who they most recently dealt to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Trevor Lawrence.
Since Jones was no longer considered the team’s starter going forward, New England needed to find a quarterback replacement. To that end, they welcomed back experienced journeyman Jacoby Brissett.
The Patriots were able to perhaps guarantee their long-term future at the position by selecting Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina with the third overall choice in the 2023 NFL Draft, even though Brissett isn’t a horrible option for a rebuilding club.
According to Jason McIntyre of FOX Sports, there is no chance that Mayo can guide this revamped club to victory in the 2024 season via The Herd with Colin Cowherd, given the amount of changes and uncertainty in so many different areas.
“There is no scenario in which Mayo and the Patriots win this season. None, remarked McIntyre.
Although the likelihood of something occurring is low, anything can occur in the NFL.
