With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, Jake Cave hit a critical single that helped the Colorado Rockies defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 8–7 on Monday night.
Charlie Blackmon also smacked a home run on his birthday, while Brenton Doyle also hit two, helping Colorado outlast the Brewers.
According to manager Bud Black, this victory was the Rockies’ first in a month. It was characterized by excellent beginning pitching, efficient bullpen pitching, timely hitting, and great defense.
William Contreras of Milwaukee had a good night, managing three hits, including a home run, albeit he was just one triple shy of reaching base three times. In addition, Willy Adames had three hits, including an RBI single that sparked a three-run eighth inning that gave the Brewers a short 7-6 lead.
In the eighth inning, Doyle hit his second home run of the contest, tying the score at 7-7 and forcing extra innings. By striking out Garrett Mitchell in the tenth inning, Tyler Kinley secured the victory and avoided a dire situation.
Manager Pat Murphy regretted wasted opportunities and gave respect to the Rockies for their clutch hitting despite the Brewers’ perseverance.
