Breaking: Rumors Update: Mavericks are interested in signing the veteran forward from the Cavaliers

Following Klay Thompson’s sign-and-trade, the Dallas Mavericks are down to one roster slot.

This summer, Dallas also acquired Quentin Grimes through a trade and signed Naji Mashall, perfectly completing the roster around their youthful core.

With the acquisitions of Grimes and Thompson, Luka Doncic will have no shortage of shooters to pass the ball to; the only thing left to do is decide who will occupy the final roster position.

Many Mavs supporters want the club to sign Dennis Smith Jr., who they think may be the piece missing from the jigsaw, but the Mavs haven’t been formally connected to him in any rumors as of yet.

The sibling of a player who played for the Mavs the previous season may be added if the team decides to improve their frontcourt rather than their backcourt.

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey reports that the Mavs are one of the clubs interested in signing Marcus Morris. Morris, who just concluded a brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, might be the ideal choice for the Mavericks.

Morris averaged 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.7 assists a game while playing for the Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers in the previous season. He also shot 40.3 percent from three-point range and 43.9 percent from the field. Morris would still be a valuable addition to the Mavs bench, especially with their final roster space, even though he isn’t the same talent that fans witnessed during his time with the LA Clippers.

Morris would provide toughness, physicality, and leadership to his job in addition to being a fantastic shooter off the catch. Though he didn’t play much, his brother Markieff Morris showed the franchise how vital he was with his seasoned leadership in the locker room.

Marcus may have an even bigger influence on the court and a comparable impact off it. In addition to making threes, Marcus is an exceptional scorer who can also occasionally go to the rim, score with his back to the hoop, or make a mid-range pull-up jumper.

Marcus plays with ferocity and physicality when on defense, showing no fear of anyone. Though his speed isn’t the best, he can hold his own in the post and stick with certain guys on the perimeter. He is by no means a lockdown defender.

Marcus could assist P.J. Washington and Maxi Kleber as a backup, and he would be a terrific addition to the Mavs to take up the final roster slot.
