Kyrie Irving, the standout player for the Mavericks, had surgery on Tuesday to fix a fractured left hand. As a result, he may not be ready for the 2024–2025 NBA season to begin.
The eight-time All-Star’s injury occurred during training earlier this month, the organization reported.
There is hope that he can heal in time for the NBA season to begin, despite the fact that it is less than three months away, according to ESPN.
ESPN stated that “sources expressed optimism that Irving would recover in time to participate in training camp in about 2 1/2 months,” despite the fact that the Mavericks did not specify a timeline for him to be cleared to resume basketball activities.
In his first full season with the Mavs, Kyrie scored an average of 25.6 points, pulled down five rebounds, and distributed 5.2 assists in 58 games on 49.7/41.1/90.5 shooting splits.
An essential part of the Mavericks’ journey to the NBA Finals was played by the 32-year-old.
Nevertheless, he performed worse in the Finals. He shot 41.4 percent from the floor overall and 27.6 percent from outside the arc to average 19.8 points and five assists in those five games.
Since he is said to have had a part in bringing Golden State icon Klay Thompson to Dallas, Irving has been rather active throughout the summer.
During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show this week, NBA source Shams Charania stated that Thompson will be a “guaranteed starter” and earn “guaranteed minutes” with the Mavs.
The talent set of Irving, Thompson, and Luka Doncic on the Mavericks may work out well together.
