Good News: Just In, LSU Confirmed Committing 5-star Player To The Squad

Derek Meadows, a five-star receiver from Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, has committed to LSU, head coach Brian Kelly said a few days after the school signed five-star cornerback DJ Pickett.

The 6-5, 200-pound player had been a lifelong Notre Dame lean, but upon his formal visit to LSU, everything changed. The Tigers were able to close the deal by entertaining him and rolling out the red carpet. On July 13, LSU came very close to getting his commitment, but ultimately chose to wait a week to be sure he was convinced about it. He selected the Tigers a week later, and he couldn’t be more pleased with his choice.

“From Day 1 those coaches believed in me and coach Hankton is a great coach who I know will get the best out of me,” Meadows stated to 247Sports. With him, it’s all about progress, and I have no doubt that he will mentor me more than anybody else. I have faith and confidence in him as a coach, and he believes in me and my ability, so I know we’ll get along well. For me, the formal visit was really significant. Every coach looks after each other like family. I’m certain that’s what I want to be doing. It will mean a lot to play in the SEC, and I’m sure I’ll work hard to compete against the best.”

What then is LSU receiving at Meadows? How are things for the Tigers on the road?

Even the most casual college football fan is aware of the accomplishments the wide receiver position in Baton Rouge has made over the past 15 years.

In terms of All-Pro caliber NFL players, it’s been possibly the most successful, and the reputation has only gotten better after two additional first-round selections were added in the 2024 draft. Due to the addition of another feather to the program’s crown over the weekend, it has aided in recruitment.

Derek Meadows, a native of Las Vegas, committed to LSU on Saturday afternoon, continuing the purple and gold’s recent pattern of attracting top wide receiver talent. As the team makes its major summer push, adding four defensive lineman, five-star cornerback DJ Pickett, and now Meadows in the 2025 class, it lifts the Tigers recruiting class into the No. 3 spot.
