What a recruiting road trip Tennessee had this past weekend. On Saturday, the Volunteers successfully acquired four-star safety Lagonza Hayward, a long-term objective, and then managed to flip four-star tight end Da’Saahn Brame.
After another trip to Knoxville, the former Oregon pledge traded in his green and yellow for orange and white, and he will bring to Tennessee an athleticism at the tight end position that we haven’t seen in a while. Brame has a 6-6, 235-pound build, which is nearly identical to a big receiver’s.
According to 247Sports, Brame is the fifth-ranked tight end prospect in the cycle and is ranked 102nd in the class of 2025.
His numbers from his junior season at Derby, Kansas, support his apparent athletic talent. Using his ability to run after the catch and get up and retrieve the ball in contested situations, Brame hauled in 13 touchdowns on just 46 receptions.
Brame is more of a pass-catcher than a true “big slot” player. With his excellent speed and ability to move quickly down the field, he can create mismatches all over the field.
Like with many tight ends, the concern here is how soon he can adjust to such a demanding role. In run and passing games, tight ends are heavily responsible. Brame will have an opportunity to adjust because Holden Staes and Ethan Davis are expected to be on the team until the 2025 season.
