On May 31, following weeks of negotiations, head coach Mike Brown and the Sacramento Kings reached an agreement on a multi-year deal.
Brown, who was about to reach the last guaranteed year of his initial contract with the Kings, signed a $30 million, three-year contract that will keep him under contract until the 2026–2027 campaign.
Brown, the 2022–23 NBA Coach of the Year and the only head coach in Sacramento to make it to the playoffs since the start of the 2006–07 season, earned the deal, which put his 54-year-old salary in line with that of other coaches in the league like Mike Budenholzer of Phoenix and Monty Williams of Detroit.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sacramento formally confirmed the agreement and featured statements from general manager Monte McNair and player Brown.
Mike Brown, the head coach of the Sacramento Kings, remarked, “I love being in Sacramento and I’m excited for this next chapter.” “I would want to express my gratitude to Vivek and Monte for their unwavering support, as well as to my coaching staff and the players for their tremendous effort and dedication to our squad. I’m excited to collaborate with you to achieve our objectives.
“Mike has led our team incredibly well, and this extension is well-deserved,” stated Monte McNair, general manager of the Sacramento Kings. “I am excited to build on the foundation he has helped establish in Sacramento. His dedication to success is unmatched.”
In his ten years as head coach, Brown has amassed a 441-286 (.607) regular-season record and 50 postseason victories. With at least 500 career regular season games under their belt, Brown has the ninth-highest winning percentage of any head coach in NBA history. He has a 94-70 regular season record in his two seasons with Sacramento, which is excellent for the fourth-best regular-season win percentage (.573) in the team’s history. With 94 victories during the 2022–2023 season, Brown is the eighth NBA head coach during that span.
