Just In: Jayhawks Confirmed Commitment Of A High Rated 5-star Player To The Squad

Chris McCorkle, a three-star cornerback, committed to Kansas. Prior to his last season, the Floridian declared his commitment to Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks.

For more than a year, the KU staff has been actively seeking the native of Florida. Throughout the previous 12 months, Jim Panagos built a positive rapport with McCorkle and made an offer for the defensive back in the fall. Panagos traveled to Florida on several occasions and had in-person visits with McCorkle. Panagos made care to remain in touch with McCorkle and his family in between trips.

That constant effort contributed significantly to McCorkle’s sense of ease at KU.

“My relationship with coach Panagos is good,” McCorkle stated. He occasionally walked by my school, so we had wonderful conversations. Additionally, he always ensures that he can communicate as much as possible.”

McCorkle claimed he began receiving calls from D.K. McDonald shortly after the latter was brought on board to coach Kansas’ cornerbacks in the spring.

The 6-foot-1 cornerback stated that his potential position coach’s resume most excites him.

“Coach McDonald has coached at an elite level, and has developed these players to be the best people and athletes on the field and off the field,” said McCorkle. “That’s what translates to those Saturdays and Sundays and I love that.”

McCorkle had previously mentioned that he was impressed by the KU atmosphere and that he loved the way the players and coaches interacted.

Observing the KU cornerbacks’ room now, he wishes to maintain the room’s rising trajectory.

“They now have two of the greatest corners in the team as seniors, and they will both be gone next year. Therefore, I want to carry on that heritage,” McCorkle remarked. “And I have a great feeling Coach McDonald will be able to develop the defensive backs room very well.”

McCorkle claimed that the manner the KU coaches got to know him and remained dependable over the process convinced him that KU was the right location for him.

He claimed that on an unauthorized visit earlier this year, he was able to glimpse the campus. He had the opportunity to visit the KU campus and observe all KU program-related activities.

“It’s gonna be great they’re building a brand new stadium, the campus tho is more on the chill side it’s still very nice, though.” McCorkle stated. “But for me, I’m gonna be playing football and going to school so that’s perfect for me.”
