On Saturday, Jared Smith, a 5-star edge rusher from Thompson, Alabama, who is rated by 247Sports, committed to Auburn over the likes of South Carolina, Florida State, Ole Miss, USC, and Georgia. 247Sports has Smith at the top of its list, ranking him as the No. 19 player, No. 2 edge rusher, and No. 2 Alabama player. Smith is ranked as the No. 57 player, No. 5 edge, and No. 4 player from Alabama by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
Smith is a Tiger thanks to a strong push from defensive ends coach Josh Aldridge and Hugh Freeze’s continued concentration on winning the state of Alabama.
Man, Auburn Undercover was informed by Smith, “It’s just the people.” “Just the people, the environment, and the culture. I’m striving to be a member of the finest recruiting class that exists at the moment. That’s all there is to it.”
Smith has now overtaken 5-star defensive lineman Malik Autry to become Auburn’s highest-rated commit in the class. He carries on the class’s overarching subject of assaulting the Yellowhammer State. Auburn currently has commitments from eight of the top ten prospects in the state according to the 247Sports rankings. Na’eem Offord and Zion Grady, who are both committed to Ohio State, are the only two players in the top 10 who are not committed to Auburn.
Along with continuing Auburn’s scorching recruiting streak, he also flips both Alabama’s Antonio Coleman and Derick Smith and wins 2025 commits from Smith, Anquon Fegans, and Blake Woodby. With Smith’s arrival on Saturday, Auburn has 22 commitments in the class and is still ranked No. 5 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.
Even though Auburn has been the front-runner since two informal visits in June, it didn’t hurt to visit last weekend and spend time with the men one more. It didn’t hurt to build from the state of Alabama too.
“Yes sir, just seeing the culture getting brought back in,” Smith replied. “Observing Coach Freeze and how he modifies the curriculum on a nightly basis. I would want to take part in that.
“Oh yeah, definitely, Being one-of-one and different,” Smith said. “Being that playmaker for Auburn.”
What is his message to the supporters?
“War Damn Eagle, we’re trying to get the best recruiting class in the country,” Smith stated. “Our goal is to develop this class. The greatest class in Auburn University history.”
For five-star edge rusher Jared Smith, this is the moment. The top contenders with hats on the table are Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina, USC, Georgia, and Ole Miss. The pass-rusher will make his announcement on Saturday. Smith, who made his debut as a freshman at Spain Park (Ala.), has always been a sought-after talent. He will now play his senior season at Thompson (Ala.). He’ll commit to a school before then.
