As they get ready for their first season under Darrell Clarke’s direction, Barnsley is rumored to be looking for a new goalkeeper.
Barnsley has other targets in addition to Vitek. The Chelsea goalie Gabriel Slonina is another target on the Tykes’ radar.
In January, the 20-year-old went on loan to League Two’s Accrington Stanley in an attempt to obtain first-team experience, and Slonina had similar goals when he was temporarily with Eupen in Belgium.
The youthful United goalkeeper went on to play in eighteen league games for the Lancashire team in all competitions.
According to a recent report from Alan Nixon via Patreon (£), Slonina has taken the lead as the front-runner, but Barnsley has been “chasing” Vitek lately.
This evening, Barnsley will host recently promoted Mansfield Town at Oakwell to begin the new season. Next Tuesday, they take on Wigan Athletic in the Carabao Cup’s opening round.
What Vitek’s future at United holds is unknown at this point.
