Manager Mike Shildt of the San Diego Padres says that right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. is getting closer to making his comeback, but he does not have a timeline on when it will happen.
Tatis Jr. suffered a stress fracture to his right femur and was placed on the 10-day injured list. He was expected to miss the whole regular season in June. On the other hand, MLB.com claims that he has accelerated his recuperation by playing baseball, especially long toss.
It is hoped that Tatis Jr. will make a comeback this season, Shildt confirmed. Before stepping up for his eventual return to the field, which the Padres management hopes will happen quickly, he will complete his rehabilitation.
According to MLB.com, “Tatis has been participating in some baseball activities, such as long toss.”Tatis is “taking those next steps” in his recuperation, according to manager Mike Shildt, who made this observation on August 16 but did not provide a timeline. Shildt continued by saying that Tatis would probably get an MRI soon. Tatis stayed in San Diego to finish his rehabilitation while the club was in Colorado for three games. Shildt continued, “He’s absolutely getting there. Just waiting for some healing to occur before he becomes more intense. And I expect he’ll be getting ready quite soon once he cranks up.
In the NL Wild Card battle, the Padres (69-54) and Arizona Diamondbacks are tied for first place. The return of Fernando Tatis Jr. may have an effect on San Diego’s prospects of making the playoffs.
Though the Padres’ most recent game ended in a 7-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Friday night, they have been playing quite well lately. They have triumphed in 12 of the previous 15 games, including a winning run of seven games that began on July 30. Given that his team has been on a tear lately and that the Padres’ first-year manager has set his sights on winning the NL West division, manager Mike Shildt must be extremely pleased with his team’s performance.
Shildt stated, “Our goals haven’t changed at any point during the season,” as reported by AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. “The goal was to win the division.” We just play the game and take care of business because we know it’s a tough task in a difficult division.
The Padres are still tied with the Diamondbacks for second place in the NL West division, three games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.
