Braylon Mullins won the Most Valuable Player award at the Indiana State Fair last weekend, the same weekend the Kentucky Wildcats received their first 2025 commitment from 4-star center Malachi Moreno. Could Mullins be the next recruit to choose the Cats? Mullins, who is ranked as high as 23rd overall in the 2025 class at 247 Sports, recently concluded his visit to UConn. Over the next few months, he will also make stops at Michigan, UNC, Indiana, Duke, Tennessee, and Kentucky. His final visit with Kentucky is scheduled for October 26th.
Moreno, a talented in-state prospect from Great Crossing, received Mark Pope’s first pledge for the class of 2025. Why might that affect this hiring process?
The reason is that Mullins and Moreno are teammates in the AAU.
Regarding playing with Mullins in college, Moreno said to Zack Geoghegan of On3, “We did have that in mind.” After all, he really did blow up the previous three summers, so I had no doubts about his greatness. We actually had the chance to be college teammates, I thought to myself when we received offers that were similar to each other. I’ll see to it that he puts on this (the Kentucky shirt).
Following Moreno’s commitment, Mullins’ father spoke with A Sea of Blue last week and said, “Malachi would definitely influence it (the recruitment) a bit, I would say.” He also mentioned that Kentucky should be in his top five if his son were to reduce the number of schools on his current list, which stands at ten. As for Mullins’ upcoming official visits, he’s merely trying to get a feel for each school and its program. “Some of them I haven’t been to, so I’m still trying to see everything, get to know the coaches, and build a little bit of a relationship with everybody,” Mullins said to Kyle Neddenriep of The Indianapolis Star.
Furthermore, Mullins will ultimately choose the Wildcats, according to a recent prediction made by KSR’s Jacob Polacheck, who also added, “I’m also predicting Kentucky to land Mullins’ commitment when he announces before the November signing period.”
Although Kentucky seems to be leading right now, the game is far from done. After Mullins has finished receiving visitors, let’s see how things turn out.
