ESPN REPORT: Kansas City Chiefs Released Another Key Fans Favorite Who Requested For Max Increased In Salary

Adam Schefter reports that Kadarius Toney’s tenure in Kansas City is coming to an end. Prior to the regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs reduced their roster to 53 players, with Toney being one of the final cuts.

In the 2021 NFL Draft, Toney was selected by the New York Giants with choice No. 20. He caught 39 passes for 420 yards and no touchdowns in his debut season. The Giants gave up halfway through Toney’s second season and dealt him to the Chiefs in exchange for third and sixth round picks. He was a bit player for the Chiefs on their journey to the LVII Super Bowl.

He caught 27 passes in 13 games last season, which was a career high, before sitting out the final three games of the regular season. The Chiefs won their second consecutive Super Bowl while he was not on the field during the playoffs.

According to ESPN, it appeared that Toney was a part of the team’s plans throughout the offseason. The troubled wide receiver worked out with Patrick Mahomes in Texas, and Andy Reid even mentioned employing him at running back during training camp. However, after the team signed JuJu Smith-Schuster back, the wide receiver was clearly no longer needed.
