Forrest Wall, an outfielder for the Orioles, was assigned straight to Triple-A Norfolk after clearing waivers, the team said Wednesday afternoon. He lacks both the prior professional experience and the necessary service time to be eligible for free agency.
Last week, Wall was claimed by Baltimore off of waivers from the Marlins. In a few days, they assigned him to a task. Wall is not an Orioles player. In the last two years, he has played in 31 big league games with the Braves and Miami. Wall has slashed a remarkable.311/.380/.422 in that brief amount of time. His Triple-A record is less impressive; through 369 games, he is a.269/.355/.387 hitter.
The 28-year-old often scores at a respectable rate when on base. He isn’t thought to be a very good defensive outfielder, either, and he doesn’t bat for much power. That’s in spite of extraordinary speed that shows on the bases. In the minor leagues, Wall has at least 35 stolen bases in four seasons.
