Giants’ Cornerback Situation Worsens Ahead of Key Matchup
The New York Giants’ No. 2 cornerback spot opposite Deonte Banks has been a concern since the summer, and it’s become more pressing with the recent injury to starter Nick McCloud. He has been ruled out for the second consecutive game due to a knee injury sustained in Week 1, according to the team’s official injury report. This leaves the Giants’ secondary in a challenging position as they prepare for a crucial Week 3 clash against the Cleveland Browns.
Third-year cornerback Cor’Dale Flott is expected to start on the outside again this week. He filled that role in Week 2 but struggled, earning a low Pro Football Focus grade of 53.8 against the Washington Commanders. Although Flott allowed just one catch on one target, it was a significant 34-yard gain that set up the game-winning field goal for Washington as time expired.
The Giants’ defense has faced difficulties in the first two weeks, allowing an average of 368.5 yards per game. With clear gaps in their starting lineup, these issues have only intensified.
In Week 3, the Giants will go up against a Cleveland Browns offense that is also struggling. Led by quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Browns are averaging just 263.5 total yards per game, ranking 27th in the NFL. Watson has been unable to find his rhythm, throwing for an average of only 177.5 yards per game and posting a 1-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
