The experience of young Blue Jackets draft picks at training camp can feel like a mix between a job interview and an internship. While they’re not truly vying for a spot on the active roster, they have a unique opportunity to learn and grow from the established players.
For many of these recent draft picks, the training camp in Columbus is a significant and exciting chance, though they recognize that most will return to their junior teams soon after. Cuts began recently, with players like defenseman Luca Marrelli and goalie Nolan Lalonde sent back to their OHL teams. This time in Columbus serves as an introduction to the organization, allowing them to observe professional players and absorb valuable insights.
Head coach Dean Evason emphasized the importance of players witnessing how veterans like Boone Jenner prepare both on and off the ice. He believes that seeing these routines firsthand will help young players incorporate effective practices into their own training.
