Under head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Los Angeles Chargers have experienced a dramatic change, and his influence on the squad has been nothing short of revolutionary. A team that lost its offensive mainstays, such as wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and running back Austin Ekeler prior to the 2024 season, has been revitalized by Harbaugh’s arrival, which has brought in a new culture.
The Chargers are well-positioned for a postseason run this season, with Justin Herbert playing the greatest football of his career. The Chargers intend to capitalize on their success, as evidenced by a recent Pro Football Focus (PFF) mock draft, which emphasizes their dedication to bolstering the roster and giving Herbert a new supporting cast for the future.
The Bolts are predicted by PFF to select Tyler Warren, a versatile tight end from Penn State, with their 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With a 91.8 PFF receiving rating, an average of 3.07 yards per route run, and just one drop out of 68 catchable passes, Warren has been outstanding this season.
The former quarterback, who stands 6 feet 6 and weighs 261 pounds, mixes his stature and athleticism with a special knowledge of defensive strategies that comes from his time as a quarterback.
Warren is the ideal fit to the Chargers’ offense because of his versatility. He is a mismatch nightmare in man coverage, thrives against zone defenses, and performs exceptionally well in the red zone. The Chargers’ offensive repertoire is enhanced by his versatility as a blocker, receiver, and even a wildcat quarterback.
Warren may create a strong tight-end tandem with Will Dissly, who has outperformed expectations this season as a blocker and a reliable presence in the passing game. Dissly’s blocking skills would enhance Warren’s ability to catch passes, providing the Chargers with a dynamic and well-balanced tandem at the position.
Joe Alt, an offensive tackle from Notre Dame, was chosen by Los Angeles with the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to improve their offensive line. Herbert now has excellent protection on both sides of the line thanks to Alt’s seamless fit opposite Rashawn Slater. Playmakers like Malik Nabers of LSU, who was selected one selection later by the New York Giants, were passed over as a result of this choice. But in the second round, the Chargers made a comeback to select Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey.
Although McConkey and Herbert’s relationship is still in its early stages, he is already the team’s top receiver with 43 receptions for 615 yards and four touchdowns.
But moving into the 2025 draft, wide receiver is still a need, thus PFF predicts the Chargers will take Miami star Xavier Restrepo in the second round to further boost their receiving corps.
Miami’s all-time leader in receptions (186), receiving yards (2,651), and 100-yard outings (11) is Restrepo, a 2024 Biletnikoff Award semifinalist. The 5-foot-10, 198-pound wideout provides Herbert with a dependable and aggressive target because of his tenacity and instincts, which belie his size.
