Jannik Sinner may face a potential ban from playing at Wimbledon next year if the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) succeeds in its appeal. The 23-year-old Italian tested positive for clostebol, a banned anabolic steroid, in March. However, an independent panel accepted Sinner’s explanation that the substance entered his system through a massage from his physio, who had used it to treat a cut on his own finger.
WADA is challenging the decision and is calling for a suspension of up to two years, though it is not seeking to disqualify Sinner from his 2024 titles. The appeal process is expected to take place between February and June, meaning Sinner could still compete in the Australian Open in January. If the appeal succeeds, he could be banned from major tournaments like the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open, which would likely cause a significant drop in his rankings due to inactivity.
