Good News; Just Now Jets Recently Announced Completing Interview With Former Falcons General Manager, Leading To…
The New York Jets began their search for a new general manager when they surprisingly fired Joe Douglas last month. While the firin
itself wasn’t shocking due to the team’s poor 3-8 record and Douglas’ inability to produce a winning season in his six years, the timing of the decision raised eyebrows. The Jets would not be able to speak to any top candidates until after the season.
Recent reports have connected the Jets with former Titans general manager Jon Robinson and ESPN analyst Louis Riddick. This has caused some concern among fans, as Robinson’s tenure included several draft misses, such as Isaiah Wilson and Caleb Farley, as well as the controversial A.J. Brown trade. Riddick, on the other hand, hasn’t worked in an NFL front office for over a decade and has no experience as a general manager.
On December 16th, the Jets announced their first formal interview with former Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff. Dimitroff is highly respected in the NFL, having won the NFL Executive of the Year award twice (in 2008 and 2010). He is best known for drafting quarterback Matt Ryan and building the 2016 Falcons team that made it to the Super Bowl. Dimitroff is also known for his use of analytics, even founding his own analytics company in 2022.
While the candidates mentioned above have some appeal, they are generally seen as underwhelming since they have been passed over for multiple cycles without receiving job offers. However, this is simply the Jets conducting thorough research, as they are unable to speak with top candidates currently employed by NFL teams.
In the meantime, the Jets are casting a wide net, exploring all potential candidates who could help turn the franchise around. While they may discover a hidden gem or secure a top contender, their approach reflects a surprisingly well-organized effort to consider every possibility.
