Exciting News; WVM Announced Another Talented Rising Star Set to Lead West Virginia Football’s Comeback in 2025

Nicco Marchiol is poised to lead the West Virginia Mountaineers as the starting quarterback in 2025. The talented left-hander brings valuable experience to the role, having stepped in as a starter four times over the past two seasons when Garrett Greene was sidelined by injuries. Impressively, Marchiol went 4-0 in those starts, showcasing his ability to manage the game under pressure.

Over his 19 career appearances, Marchiol has accumulated 1,027 total yards and accounted for 11 touchdowns, offset by six turnovers. These numbers reflect both his potential and areas for growth, but his on-field performances suggest he is ready to take on the full-time starting role. New head coach Rich Rodriguez, returning to Morgantown, inherits a quarterback with the skill set to anchor his offense. Marchiol’s dual-threat capabilities fit well with Rodriguez’s offensive schemes, giving the Mountaineers a dynamic leader at the position.

Despite the transfer portal’s growing influence on roster construction, Rodriguez has not pursued a high-profile quarterback to challenge Marchiol for the starting job in his first season back. However, he has added depth to the quarterback room by bringing in experienced backups Jaylen Henderson (Texas A&M) and Max Brown (Charlotte). Both players possess starting experience and provide valuable insurance should Marchiol face any setbacks.

For now, Marchiol remains the clear favorite to start, with Rodriguez signaling confidence in the redshirt junior’s ability to lead the team. The combination of Marchiol’s track record and the coach’s trust in his potential suggests the Mountaineers will build their offensive identity around him in 2025. With a strong supporting cast and a system tailored to his strengths, Marchiol has the opportunity to shine as the face of West Virginia football.

As the Mountaineers prepare for a new chapter under Rodriguez, all eyes will be on Nicco Marchiol to see if he can take the next step in his development and lead West Virginia back to prominence in the Big 12.
