Good News; Alcaraz Continues To Establish Himself As One Of The Brightest Young stars In Tennis With First Indoor Title
Carlos Alcaraz clinched the first indoor title of his career with a hard-fought victory over Alex de Minaur in a gripping three-set final at the Rotterdam Open.
Playing in his first tournament since his Australian Open quarter-final loss to Novak Djokovic last month, Alcaraz started strong, taking the first set 6-4. However, De Minaur responded by breaking Alcaraz’s serve early in the second set, eventually leveling the match with a 6-3 win.
The decisive third set remained on serve until the sixth game when Alcaraz secured a crucial break to lead 4-2. Maintaining his momentum, he held serve before breaking De Minaur again, closing out the match with a 6-2 final set to claim his first title of the season.
This victory marks the 21-year-old Spaniard’s 17th career title and his first since winning the China Open last October. As the reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion, Alcaraz demonstrated resilience throughout the tournament, overcoming three-set battles against world No. 84 Botic van de Zandschulp and Hubert Hurkacz in the semi-finals.
Despite struggling with a cold during the tournament, Alcaraz credited his team for their support.
“This week has been really good,” Alcaraz said. “Coming here not feeling 100 percent due to a cold, but getting better each day thanks to my team.”
With this win, Alcaraz continues to establish himself as one of the brightest young stars in tennis.
