The Indianapolis Colts are gearing up for a pivotal offseason following a disappointing end to the 2024-25 NFL season. The Colts have been frequently connected to prospects like Penn State tight end Tyler Warren and Georgia safety Malaki Starks. Both players could make an immediate impact, but as draft day approaches, Indianapolis might explore other options with their 14th overall pick.

CBS Sports analyst Garrett Podell recently projected that the Colts could select Missouri offensive tackle Armand Membou in the first round. Membou, who turned 20 this year, has been a standout performer in the SEC, earning recognition as one of the conference’s top offensive linemen during the 2024 season.

“The Colts could have a void at right guard with Will Fries set to become a free agent, so they select Armand Membou, a 2024 second-team All-SEC right tackle who could slide inside to guard,” Podell explained.

Membou’s versatility could be a critical factor in the Colts’ decision-making process. While he primarily played at tackle for Missouri, there is speculation that he could transition to guard if needed. This flexibility could prove valuable if the Colts are unable to re-sign Fries, who is considered one of the top offensive linemen available in free agency.

At 6-foot-3 and 325 pounds, Membou is slightly shorter than Fries but makes up for it with his strength and technique. Known for his proficiency in both run blocking and pass protection, Membou posted an impressive 90.4 overall grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF) for the 2024 season. However, the Colts could be taking a bit of a gamble if they choose him at No. 14, as he currently ranks 23rd on PFF’s big board.

One of the biggest challenges for the Colts would be determining whether Membou can successfully adapt to a new position. Moving from tackle to guard is not always a seamless transition, and the team would need to evaluate his ability to handle different assignments and blocking schemes.

Losing Fries would leave a substantial hole in the offensive line. He ranked fourth among 135 eligible guards according to PFF, showcasing his reliability and skill throughout the season. His departure would not only create a need at right guard but also potentially disrupt the cohesion of a unit tasked with protecting quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Richardson, who is expected to continue as the team’s starter in 2025, would benefit greatly from a strong and stable offensive line. Whether it is through re-signing Fries or investing in a player like Membou, the Colts’ front office will need to prioritize keeping their young quarterback upright and supported.

As free agency and the draft approach, Indianapolis will have to weigh their options carefully.
