The Cleveland Guardians have learned of some terrible news regarding George Valera’s injuries. Valera is a promising outfield prospect.

According to Mandy Bell of MLB.com, Valera’s right knee has a ruptured patellar tendon, necessitating surgery on Wednesday. He will likely need six to nine months to recover.

Valera was hurt last week as he ran into a wall while trying to make a grab. He was put on the 7-day injured list after his initial diagnosis of a knee strain, but regrettably, the ailment turned out to be far more serious than anticipated.

At Triple-A Columbus this season, Valera slashed.248/.337/.452 with 17 home runs and 50 RBI in 374 plate appearances.

The 23-year-old’s MLB career is definitely in doubt because this is by no means the first time he has dealt with injuries.

Prior to the 2024 season, Valera was ranked among the top 100 baseball prospects in the whole sport.

The 2023 season was a complete flop for him, as he only managed a modest amount of wins.220/.349/.397 in 338 at-bats with 11 home runs and 38 RBI in the lower levels.

Although Valera was born in Queens, New York, as a teenager, she relocated to the Dominican Republic. In 2017, the Guardians signed him as an international free agent.

Valera was hitting.260/.405,.505 with 19 long balls and 65 RBI in 2021 early in the game. With an OPS of.816 in 2022, he proved to be outstanding once more.

But Valera’s past two years have been terrible, and he’s been falling out of Cleveland’s top prospects’ consideration.
