ESPN REPORT: Good News As Tigers Signed Deal With Another Veteran Superstar To Minor League

Missouri’s Kansas City Tomás Nido, an eight-year MLB veteran, signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday and was assigned to Triple-A Toledo. Despite signing before the beginning of September, Nido, 30, will not be eligible for the postseason…

At Triple-A, he provides depth for the Tigers.

In Wednesday’s game, Nido made his debut for the Mud Hens at catcher.

The veteran catcher Anthony Bemboom, who had a minor league contract this summer, doesn’t look likely to play in 2024, so the Tigers signed Nido. After taking a foul ball to his head protection, the 34-year-old experienced moderate symptoms like previous concussions. Because the Triple-A season concludes on Sunday, he doesn’t want to take any more chances of getting hurt.

Bemboom, who participated in 82 games throughout five different MLB seasons, finished 58 games for the Mud Hens with a.227 batting average, two home runs, 33 walks, and 52 strikeouts. Two days after his last game, on Saturday, he was placed on the Triple-A disabled list.

Stephen Scott and Nido are the two catchers for the Mud Hens.

Throughout eight MLB seasons, Nido has participated in 323 games, batting.210 with a.554 OPS. Before playing 17 games for the Cubs starting in June 2024, he played his first 306 games with the New York Mets from 2017 to 24. The Cubs designated him for assignment at the end of August and released him.

Right-handed hitter Nido has trouble scoring runs, but he is a reliable defender who performs above average in blocking, framing, caught stealing, and pop time.

He won’t have an effect on the Tigers until one of the remaining ten games’ starter catchers, Jake Rogers, or backup catcher, Dillon Dingler, gets hurt.

Nido is anticipated to become a minor league free agency after 2024.
