Breaking: Just Now Panthers Strike A Costly Agreement To Remain In Their Present Venue For The Long Run

The Florida Panthers have secured a long-term agreement to remain at Amerant Bank Arena, with some of the funding sourced from taxpayers.

After several name changes, Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, will continue to serve as the home for the defending Stanley Cup champions. The Panthers have extended their lease until 2033, with Broward County having the option to automatically extend it for two additional five-year periods afterward. The new deal involves an upfront payment of over $50 million from the Panthers, while the county will contribute $25 million annually through a tourism tax.

The arena holds special significance for Panthers fans, especially following the team’s recent victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, which marked their first NHL championship. Although the Oilers raised concerns about the ice conditions during the series, it did not overshadow the championship excitement.

Additionally, the Panthers recently invested over $65 million to renovate their practice facility in nearby Fort Lauderdale, which will feature new retail and dining options. Last season, the team saw over one million fans attend games for the first time in franchise history, including playoff matches.
