It’s official: Sha’Carri Richardson now has a track named in her honor in her hometown of Dallas! The unveiling took place at John Kincaide Stadium during a football game between the Carter Cowboys and the Wilmer-Hutchins Eagles on September 20.
This celebration follows Richardson’s impressive performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she secured a gold medal in the 4×100 relay and a silver in the 100m final.
“This is where I come from,” Richardson stated, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. “Thank you for supporting me no matter how far I go.” The track features a plaque with her inspiring words: “I’m doing it for everyone who looks like me,” according to the Olympics.
Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde acknowledged Richardson’s influence, saying, “Sha’Carri, you have often said your grandmother is your superwoman. Dallas ISD says thank you for being all of our superwoman.”
Richardson, a former athlete from Carter High School, won two medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The track was officially named after her last year, following her gold medal win in the 100m at the 2023 World Championships. Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson also declared November 10, 2023, as Sha’Carri Richardson Day.
“It’s an honor, but it also shows that I have a responsibility to Dallas and DISD,” Richardson remarked. “People often forget where I come from—that’s Dallas. That’s where I get my heart and mindset.”
