The Orioles have announced that they have called up left-handed pitcher Tucker Davidson from Triple-A Norfolk. In a corresponding move, right-hander Bryan Baker has been sent to the team’s Spring Training facility.
Davidson, who has a 5.98 ERA over 125 MLB innings with the Braves, Angels, and Royals from 2020 to 2023, joined Baltimore last October after being claimed off waivers from Kansas City. He has spent the entire season at Triple-A, where he recorded a 3.89 ERA, a 20.7% strikeout rate, and a 9.1% walk rate over 115 2/3 innings.
After primarily pitching as a reliever earlier in the season, Davidson has started his last 11 games with Norfolk, returning to a starting role he held for most of his earlier MLB career. The Orioles may have him start in tomorrow’s regular-season finale against the Twins, or at least have him pitch significant innings to preserve the arms of other pitchers ahead of the playoffs. With the Orioles secured in the top AL wild card spot, their focus for the final two games is on maintaining player health for their postseason opener on Tuesday.
