The star In the first period of Thursday night’s game, Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser was hit by Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot with a cheap shot, seemingly injuring his head. The Canucks have confirmed that Boeser will not play again.

Before being forced to leave the game, 27-year-old Boeser had one shot on goal during his 3:14 of ice time, which included 1:25 on the power play.

Quinn Hughes put pressure on Kings forward Andre Lee in the neutral zone and tapped the puck to Boeser, who was behind and supporting the play, causing the Canucks forward to sustain his injury when retrieving a loose puck along the left wall. Then, from the blueline, Jeannot emerged, making a clumsy attempt to extend his stick before continuing on his present course and severing Boeser’s head, which served as the hit’s main point of contact.

Jeannot did not attempt to avoid contact or keep following the puck as a forechecker, and his hit was late. Jeannot was thus expelled from the game after receiving a major match penalty that lasted five minutes.

Jeannot’s selfish and careless play against Boeser during Thursday night’s game against the Canucks earned him the match penalty. As a result, he will automatically be subject to an NHL disciplinary review, which could result in a fine and/or a ban from the game.

 

Before sustaining the regrettable injury against the Kings on Thursday night, Boeser had six goals, five assists, and eleven points in 11 games for the Canucks this season.
