Sam LaPorta was the only player missing from Thursday’s Detroit Lions practice.
Due to a shoulder injury sustained during last week’s victory over the Houston Texans, LaPorta is still out. The only player who did not participate in the team’s walkthrough to start the week was the second-year tight end.
LaPorta’s injury was reported by Dan Campbell as an AC joint strain. The head coach of the Lions stated that LaPorta might miss their upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he did not seem concerned about his long-term status.
The other two tight ends on the 53-man roster are Brock Wright and Shane Zylstra. James Mitchell, a former fifth-round selection, is still practicing and may make his debut this season.
Taylor Decker was taking part in the short window that was available to local reporters. After returning to the field, Decker informed reporters that he would play this weekend.
Dan Campbell expressed hope that the starting left tackle would return to his position against the Jaguars. Decker injured his shoulder at practice last week, so he was unable to play. Since the injury occurred late in the week, Penei Sewell continued to play right tackle, and Dan Skipper started in his place.
“I do feel better about having Decker this week as of right now,” Campbell remarked. “I think he’s dubious, but I’m beginning to feel pretty good about him when he was out there during the walkthrough.
Ifeatu Melifonwu and Emmanuel Moseley have had their 21-day windows opened, and they are still practicing. Za’Darius Smith, a new pass rusher, was also seen performing his inaugural up-downs while the squad watched.
