During the World Series, the New York Yankees got to know the majority of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching staff. In Game 3 of the Fall Classic, one of those pitchers, Walker Buehler, had an outstanding performance, throwing five scoreless frames against the Bombers while recording two hits, two walks, and five strikeouts.
The Yankees have expressed interest in signing Buehler as a free agent, according to MLB insider Jon Morosi. This is not surprising, given the right-hander pitched a 3.86 ERA in 14 innings during the playoffs, looking much like his typical powerful self despite having a 5.38 ERA during the 2024 regular season.
Buehler has thrown 10 scoreless frames with 13 punchouts in his last three postseason appearances (a start against the New York Mets, the previously stated games against the Yankees, and a save opportunity in the decisive Game 5 versus the Bombers).
The Yankees have some hope that they can add a potentially elite pitcher without having to spend top bucks since, according to Morosi, the interest is reciprocal.
In recent seasons, Buehler has experienced a number of injury-related problems, most notably two Tommy John surgery over his career. But he ended the 2024 postseason with a commanding performance, and he may finally be returning to his pre-surgery level.
Despite being around for ages, Buehler only turned 30 in July, and he has a decent 3.27 lifetime ERA. With a top young pitching coach and a competitive roster, the Yankees might provide him with a good platform to continue striving for both individual and team success.
