Good News; Ryan Day Secures $12.5M Mega Deal After Leading Ohio State to CFP Glory
Ohio State University has secured head football coach Ryan Day with a seven-year contract extension, valued at $12.5 million annually, extending his leadership through the 2031 season. This agreement awaits approval from the university’s board of trustees.
Under Day’s guidance, the Buckeyes clinched the College Football Playoff (CFP) national championship in January, making him one of only three active coaches to achieve this feat. Athletic Director Ross Bjork emphasized the significance of maintaining coaching stability, highlighting Day’s pivotal role in recruitment, player development, and the program’s overall success.
The Buckeyes concluded the regular season with a 10-2 record. Despite a narrow 13-10 home loss to their arch-rival Michigan in November, which led to some fans questioning Day’s leadership, the team entered the CFP as the No. 7 seed. They triumphed in four consecutive games, defeating Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas, culminating in a 34-23 championship victory over Notre Dame in Atlanta. This marked Ohio State’s ninth national championship and its first since 2014, bringing Day’s career record to an impressive 70-10.
Expressing his gratitude, Day acknowledged the unwavering support from his team, coaching staff, and the broader Ohio State community. He commended his assistant coaches and staff for their relentless efforts in maintaining Ohio State’s elite status both on and off the field. Day also praised the dedication and determination of his players, emphasizing the team’s culture of respect, commitment, and love.
This contract extension not only rewards Day’s past achievements but also underscores the university’s confidence in his vision for the program’s future. By securing Day’s leadership through 2031, Ohio State aims to continue its tradition of excellence in college football.
