In one of the more unexpected moments of trade deadline day, Brock Boeser remained with the Vancouver Canucks.

Now, a day later, the reason for his staying has been revealed.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Canucks were asking for a first-round pick in exchange for their long-time forward, but no such offer was made.

This explanation sheds light on general manager Patrik Allvin’s comments at his Friday press conference when asked about Boeser’s status with the team. Allvin said, “If I told you what I was offered for Brock Boeser, I think I would have to run out of here because you would not believe me,” hinting at a lack of acceptable offers.

As a result, Boeser, 28, remains in Vancouver. The Minnesota native has recorded 18 goals in 55 games this season, far from his career-high 40-goal performance last year.

Boeser isn’t the only Canuck to face struggles this season. Elias Pettersson recently ended a 15-game goal drought, and J.T. Miller, who reportedly had a falling out with Pettersson, was traded to the New York Rangers in January, marking the start of a series of roster changes for the team.

Vancouver, which won the Pacific Division last season, currently holds the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 69 points in 62 games.
