Sad News: Knick Set To Loose Another Important Key Player And Actually Offending The Free Agent

It’s possible that the New York Knicks are offending their most significant upcoming free agent.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst made an appearance on “Get Up” earlier this week. Windhorst made remarks on OG Anunoby’s status with the Knicks throughout the show, implying that Anunoby is dissatisfied with the outcome of his contract talks with the franchise.

Anunoby, a former Toronto Raptors champion, was traded to the Knicks in December of last year. In addition to scoring 14.1 points per game on a reliable 39.8% three-point shooting percentage in New York, he proved to be the Knicks’ most effective and adaptable one-on-one defender.

The highest salary available to the 26-year-old Anunoby in free agency is $245 million over five years, which the Knicks can give. However, given that Anunoby is prone to injury—he missed the most of the Knicks’ playoff series against Indiana due to a hamstring problem—and given that the team has other significant free agents to contend with this summer, it would not be wise for them to go that high.

Nevertheless, the Knicks run the danger of alienating Anunoby by making a lowball offer, which is possibly the case in this instance. There will undoubtedly be some East rivals willing to make a move for Anunoby if the negotiations with the Knicks suddenly fall through.
