Vietnam defeated Kuwait 3–0 in their 2024 Asian Cup group D opener on Wednesday.
Vietnam ascended to the top of group D after defeating Kuwait 3-1 in their opening match.
Kuwait attempted to score another goal despite this, sending a long-range attempt into the woodwork.
Three further minutes are added to the second half.
Kuwait played harsh in 1v1 matches because they had nothing to lose. There is a good chance that any club that loses this game will be eliminated.
Once more, it was Bui Vi Hao, but this time he finished from a tight left angle. Although there wasn’t much force on the shot, the Kuwaiti goaltender erred once more by failing to make a solid stop.
Minh Khoa attempted to strike the objective with a long-range shot, but it missed.
Kuwait altered the roster by three players.
Ho Van Cuong was given a booking for kicking a player from Kuwait as he attempted to touch the ball.
Vietnam eventually managed to put the ball in the net after a string of passes and shots, but Minh Khoa’s goal was disregarded because the referee ruled it was offside. He checked VAR, but the ruling remained the same.
When Yousef Al-Haqan struck Van Truong in the chest, he was given a yellow card.
The replacement Bui Vi Hao won the ball and put it into the empty net with ease, taking advantage of the Kuwaiti goalkeeper’s error. Speak of immediate effect.
After the interval, Vietnam changed three players, including two attackers.
Both teams experienced an exciting first half as they both received a red card and a goal.
S. Muhammad calmly buried it into the right corner from the penalty spot to restart the scoring. 1 to 1.
Nevertheless, the referee chose to send Thang off after consulting VAR to see whether or not his foul was significant. Both Kuwait and Vietnam are now using ten men in each game.
The referee ruled a penalty when Nguyen Ngoc Thang fouled a Kuwaiti player in the box.
Van Truong played a through pass for Van Tung to sprint down and then finished deftly with the outside of his foot to beat the Kuwaiti goalie.
After tackling a player from Vietnam from behind, Abdulrahman Karam received a booking.
After examining the case for two minutes using VAR, the referee sent Ebrahim Marzouq off the field for that risky play involving Van Khang.
Van Khang was stepped on by a Kuwaiti player, and the referee looked through VAR to see if he should be sent off.
Van Khang’s freekick went wide because he used too much force.
Because they don’t often get to play together, it’s understandable that the connection between the Vietnam players wasn’t great as they made a lot of bad passes in the last few minutes.
After trying to take a shot and coming into touch with one another, Khuat Van Khang and Nguyen Van Tung were in agony. The two players didn’t communicate well, therefore Vietnam lost out on a crucial scoring opportunity.
Dinh Bac attempted to play on after spraining his ankle, but a few minutes later, he indicated to the coach that he needed to be replaced. Frustrated, Bac pounded his palms into the ground. He is being replaced by Nguyen Van Truong.
Nguyen Dinh Bac, a 20-year-old forward, made a terrific tackle, however he damaged his ankle after the play. He was sprayed with an analgesic before being allowed to play again.
Kuwait attempted a long-range shot that missed the mark to receive their first opportunity of the match.
Vietnam participated in the competition following the contract termination of coach Philippe Troussier in March 2024. After taking over, coach Hoang Anh Tuan, who had ten years of youth football experience, took over. In 2016, he qualified for the U17 World Cup and led Vietnam to the U19 Asian Cup.
Kuwait only has two U21 players in their roster compared to five for Vietnam. There are six players in Vietnam who are taller than 1.75 meters, compared to just two in Kuwait who play defense.
Over the previous 20 years, Kuwaiti football has underperformed compared to Vietnam. They failed both the Asian Cup and the U23 group stage. They are yet to win a game in the U23 Asian Cup.
